How to Give a Single Flower as a Simple Gift

A flower gift does not have to be a large bouquet. A MAFF regional handout encourages giving flowers more freely between all kinds of people. One stem is easier to carry and less dependent on the size of the recipient’s vase.

Choose one message first

Begin with a short intention such as thank you, well done, or congratulations. Flower meanings are not the only guide; you can choose a favorite color or a mood that reminds you of the recipient.

Tell the florist it is a one-stem gift

Share the budget, handover time, and travel duration. Ask about stem length, simple wrapping, and whether temporary hydration is needed.

Use a short card to make the reason clear

Color and flower impressions vary. A short line such as Thank you for your help communicates why you chose the flower. Avoid adding unnecessary personal information to the card.

Pass along one care note

Tell the recipient to remove transport wrapping and place the stem in a clean container. Ask the florist for the flower name and any water-depth note, then add it briefly to the back of the card if useful.

Frequently asked questions

Policies vary, so say that it is a one-stem gift and ask about wrapping and temporary hydration.

Must I choose by flower meaning?

No. A favorite color or mood can be enough, especially when a short card explains your intention.
