Japan’s Council for expanding demand for domestic flowers (国産花き需要拡大推進協議会) announced that the well-blooming 10days challenge would be held at about 420 flower shops from October 10 through 19, 2026. The dates have passed, so this article reviews the announcement rather than presenting the campaign as open.

What the organizer announced

The official page describes a ten-day effort to reduce disposable wrapping and says 2026 was the project’s third year. Participating shops were invited to create a “well-blooming BOUQUET” combining plastic-free or recycled-material wrapping with some flower material described by the organizer as environmentally considerate.

Why it matters to the flower trade

The campaign treats packaging and transport as part of the customer conversation, alongside flower quality. The official page does not report material savings or environmental impact attributable to this campaign. Those outcomes should not be presented as measured facts without shop-level data.

What shops and customers can ask

  • Whether wrapping is necessary for the journey
  • Whether paper, recycled material, or a customer-supplied bag is available
  • What “environmentally considerate production” means for the flowers used
  • Whether reduced wrapping still protects flowers and prevents water leakage

Even after the campaign, customers can ask for simple wrapping or whether their own bag can be used. Shops can explain which materials are essential for protection and which can be reduced.
